The Center for Telehealth Supports Creation of University and Community Health Partnerships
As the primary point of contact regarding UNM HSC Telehealth, the Center for Telehealth and
Cybermedicine Research (CfTH) at UNM is the "incubator" and facilitator available to help HSC
programs interested in integrating Telehealth into their initiatives. There are now over 50
communities and close to 100 sites in New Mexico that are connected through a network of networks
involving several health care provider organizations.

Telehealth

- The integration of telecommunications systems into the practice of protecting and promoting
health, while telemedicine is incorporation of these systems into curative medicine….telehealth
covers education for health, public and community health, health systems development and epidemiology,
whereas telemedicine is oriented toward the clinical aspect (World Health Organization).
- Telehealth is the use of electronic information and telecommunications technologies to support
long-distance clinical health care, patient and professional health-related education, public health
and health administration (Office for the Advancement of Telehealth).
