Executive Vice President for Health Sciences, Professor of Medicine
R. Philip Eaton, MD has served as the Vice President for Health Sciences at
the University of New Mexico since December 1998. Eaton was the Chief of
the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism from 1975 to 1998, and was
Associate Dean for Research in the School of Medicine from 1996 to 1998.

Associate Vice President for Knowledge Management & Information Technology,
Director, Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center
Holly Buchanan, Director and Professor, joined the Health Sciences Center in 1997.
She has over thirty years of experience in library and information science leadership
in healthcare management and higher education. Prior to coming to Albuquerque,
she was the Director of Libraries and Associate Professor at the Medical College of
Georgia.

Director of HSC Development
Susan Crow has served as the Director of HSC Development since January 2002.
She came to the HSC from UCLA, where she served as Director of Development for
the Division of Humanities and Associate Director of Development for Medical
Sciences. She has more than 15 years of experience in development for academic
and cultural institutions.

Interim Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration
Linda Easley became the Interim Associate Vice President for Finance and
Administration in May 2003. From 1994 to 2003, she served as the Director
of the Health Sciences Center Budget Office, providing strategic counsel
to the leadership on both budgetary and legislative matters. Prior to her
service at UNM, Ms. Easley spent five years with the New Mexico Commission
on Higher Education, five years with the New Mexico Department of Finance
and Administration, and was an executive aide to Governor Anaya from 1983
to 1984.

Dean, College of Nursing
Sandra Ferketich has served as the Dean of the College of Nursing and Professor
since 1997. Prior to becoming the Dean of the College of Nursing, she held faculty
positions at the University of California, San Francisco and the University of
Arizona. Dean Ferketich is a graduate of the University of New Mexico.

Associate Vice-President for Strategic Initiatives
Judy Jones, who has been the Associate Vice President for Strategic Initiatives since April 2004, joined the University of New Mexico in 1988. She has held various administrative position at the University and in New Mexico state government and was a management consultant with a national firm. She graduated from the University of Wyoming, received an M.A. degree from George Washington University and is a certified public accountant.

Associate Vice-President for Clinical Integration
Dr. Kirk graduated from St.Mary’s Hospital, University of London, in 1961. He pursued further training in
obstetrics and gynecology at St. Mary’s and Charing Cross Hospital Medical Schools in London. In 1975, he came to the
United States as Program Director of the Residency Training Program in OB/GYN at Oregon Health Sciences University and
affiliated hospitals. He became Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology in 1984, and President of University
Medical Group in 1996. He is a fellow of both the American College of OB/GYN and the Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
He joined the UNM Health Sciences Center in March 2005.

Chief Executive Officer, UNM Hospital, Associate Vice President for Clinical Operations
Steve McKernan is Chief Executive Officer of UNM Hospital and Associate Vice President
of UNM Health Sciences Center Clinical Operations. He was promoted to this position in
February 1998, after serving as Interim CEO for 18 months. Prior to that he served for
eleven years as CFO for the hospital and for four years as Executive Director of University
Physician Associates. He has been associated with the hospital for 22 years.

Dean, College of Pharmacy
John A. Pieper joined the UNM Health Sciences Center as the Dean of the UNM
College of Pharmacy in November 2002. Prior to his arrival at the Health
Sciences Center, Dr. Pieper served as professor and chairman of the Division of
Pharmacy Practice at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Pieper
has also served on the faculty at the University of Colorado Health Sciences
Center in Denver, University of Tennessee in Memphis, University of Florida in
Gainesville and State University of New York in Buffalo.

Dean, School of Medicine, Associate Vice President for Clinical Affairs
Dr. Roth has been Dean of the UNM School of Medicine and Associate Vice
President for Clinical Affairs since 1994. Prior to this appointment, Dr.
Roth held various high-level positions in the School of Medicine including
Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Director of Ambulatory Care
Programs, and Chief Medical Officer. Since 1990, Dr. Roth has served as
Director of the Center for Disaster Medicine at the University of New Mexico.
He is a Fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians. Currently
Dr. Roth serves as a member of the Advisory Council for Public Health
Preparedness to Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson.
