HSC Web Authors

Web Author FAQ

How do I start my new web site?

Contact the HSC Web Administrator, Kevin Wiley, at 2-3638 or via email in GroupWise. He will get basic information needed to get your site set up and give you access. The next thing you should do is sign up for the HSC Web Author course. This course will tell you what you need to know in order to work your web site.

What standards do I need to follow?

You need to adhere to the HSC Web Development Policy and Graphical Standards.

What tools do I need to use?

Most Web Authors use Microsoft Expressions Web 2 (or Microsoft Sharepoint designer or Microsoft FrontPage on older UNM computers). This software is available from ITS Software Distribution.

Is there a class or training?

Yes, there will be a class for HSC Web Authors. The Web Authors class offers two hours of theory on building the most effective site possible for your department. We also offer a two hour Web Author's Lab for more hands on help and training. You can register for them in Learning Central.

I cannot connect to my web site. What should I do?

First, be sure that you are using your HSCNetID and password to log in. You must also type 'health\' in front of your HSCNetID to log in.

If that fails, contact Kevin Wiley at 2-3683 or David Groth at 2-8406.

How do I get someone in my department access to maintain our site?

Your manager or department chair must send an email to Kevin Wiley requesting web author access for that person. The HSC Web Team cannot give anyone permission to work on the web server without this.

What are the Web Author meetings about?

The Web Author meetings cover a range of topics for HSC Web Authors. One of the main purposes of the meetings is to keep the Web Authors informed of coming changes and to hear their comments and concerns about the HSC web effort. The meetings sometimes deal with hands-on topics, such as finding HSC web statistics.
