We care for all patients who come to the emergency department. Patients with the most serious injuries or illnesses are seen first. If your symptoms are not severe, you may choose to visit UNMH’s onsite Urgent Care Clinic instead.
When You Arrive
A triage nurse will examine you, review your symptoms and ask about your medical history. You may receive an evaluation by one of our APPs while in triage. We will ask for your name, date of birth, contact information and the name of your primary care provider. The length of your visit depends on your condition and tests needed. It will also depend on the number of other patients with critical injuries or illnesses.
While You Are Waiting
Our emergency staff will help keep you comfortable and get your care started.

For non-urgent symptoms, visit UNM Health Urgent Care.
Usually, you may have one or two visitors at a time. But in some cases, staff may not allow visitors for your safety. Please ask your visitors to follow instructions and cooperate with our staff.
After you return home, a nurse may call to check on your health. You will receive a survey about your visit. Please complete and return it to help us improve our care.
