When to Call 911

Help your child get the correct care he or she needs. At UNM Children’s Hospital, we offer a pediatric emergency room reserved exclusively for kids.

Bring your child to the ER if he or she experiences:

  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Trouble breathing
  • Unconsciousness or unresponsiveness

If your child arrives in urgent care and has a limb- or life-threatening condition, we may transport him or her to the emergency room.

After Your Visit

If your child has a pediatrician through a UNM Health clinic, we will work with them for a smoother follow-up care process. It’s important that your child’s regular physician is aware of the illness or injury so he or she can manage any medication or symptoms going forward.
