Personal Statement

I grew up in Pojoaque, NM, and graduated from Pojoaque High School. I attended the University of New Mexico for both my bachelor's and master’s degrees. I received a B.S. Radiologic Sciences Concentration Nuclear Medicine in 2005. Later in 2012, I received my M.S., Health Education - Community Health. My passion is working as a nuclear medicine technologist throughout New Mexico in Albuquerque, Gallup, Los Alamos, Santa Fe, and Espanola and educating students at the University of New Mexico to become outstanding nuclear medicine technologists.

Clinically - I continue to work PRN as a nuclear medicine technologist at local hospitals. Prior I worked as a full-time nuclear medicine technologist for over 10 years. Completed and maintained clinical accreditation through the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for Gallup Cardiology and continue to assist other facilities in completing IAC accreditation as needed. For the Nuclear Medicine Program, I have modified clinical databases via HanDBase which are used by students to track clinical experiences.

Academically - In 2014 I began the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT) accreditation process for the University of New Mexico Nuclear Medicine Program. In April 2016, the JRCNMT granted initial accreditation to the UNM BSRS Concentration Nuclear Medicine. I continue to maintain JRCNMT accreditation.

I currently hold a Governor-appointed seat on the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Advisory Council (MIRTAC). Members respond to the medical imaging community’s concerns and/or suggestions to make changes to the statute (Title 20: Environmental Protection; Chapter 3: Radiation Protection; Part 20: Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Licensure).
