Milagro is a program for pregnant women with substance abuse and addiction issues in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area. Women who take part in the program receive prenatal care from UNM Health System providers in the Family Medicine clinics. In addition to medical services, the Milagro program provides counseling and case management support, as well as a team approach to overall well-being. Our medical, nursing and counseling providers work together to help expecting mothers and their families before and after the baby is born.
Medication-assisted treatments such as buprenorphine (Subutex) or methadone are available to women with opiate or heroin addictions. Our team of providers can assist the women and their newborns during inpatient hospital stays, and form a treatment plan based on specific needs.
Started in 1989 as the first comprehensive prenatal care program for pregnant women with substance abuse and addiction issues in New Mexico, the Milagro program, has served more than 2,000 women in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area.
