Why I Chose UNM: Before my sub-internship at UNM, I had never been to New Mexico, but within the first couple of weeks, I knew it was the right fit for me. I loved the variety and complexity of the cases, but the people were what made the decision easy. The residents have a great dynamic and support each other, the faculty are passionate about teaching, and the program leadership is involved and invested. I’m excited to be back at UNM and explore everything New Mexico has to offer.
About Me/Hobbies: I spend as much time outside as possible, whether hiking with my dog, visiting the Saturday market, or wine tasting. I stay active with pickleball, lifting, and yoga, and hope to complete a triathlon during residency. I also love learning new things and am currently testing whether my mini-golf skills can translate to the real thing.
Future Plans: Obstetric anesthesia initially drew me to the specialty, but I’m also very interested in regional anesthesia. I’m keeping an open mind about fellowship and looking forward to seeing what I’m drawn to most during residency!

Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM because of its strong commitment to serving diverse and often underserved populations. The program’s mission to care for patients from all backgrounds and to address healthcare disparities really resonated with me. I’ve also consistently heard great things about the people here—the supportive culture, approachable faculty, and collaborative environment. It felt like a place where I would not only grow clinically, but also be part of a team that truly values its patients and each other.
About Me/Hobbies: Outside of medicine, I spend a lot of my time training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, where I was recently promoted from white belt to blue belt. It’s been a rewarding way to stay disciplined, challenged, and continuously improving. I also enjoy striking, including boxing and kickboxing, as well as weightlifting to stay active and balanced. Beyond fitness, I like playing and teaching chess, exploring new places, and spending time with friends and family.
Future Plans: After residency, I’m hoping to become a well-rounded anesthesiologist with a strong focus on patient-centered care. I’m especially interested in pediatric anesthesia and plan to pursue a fellowship in it. Long term, I’d like to stay involved in teaching and mentorship while continuing to care for diverse patient populations.

Why I Chose UNM: I chose to stay at UNM because New Mexico is home to me. My family is here, and I love everything the state has to offer. The people, the food, the culture, and the outdoors. UNM also has the strong clinical training I was looking for, especially with the experience that comes from training at a Level 1 Trauma Center. I know I will get all the training I need here, and it’s clear that residents graduate from the program confident and well prepared. Everyone in the department is also incredibly welcoming, kind and supportive, which made it feel like the right fit for me. Got to love the Land of entrapment!
About Me/Hobbies: Outside of medicine, I love doing anything and everything. I enjoy rock climbing, snowboarding, camping, hiking, traveling, and going to concerts. I love to hangout and spend time with friends and family.
Future Plans: After residency, I hope to pursue a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia!

Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM because I completed a rotation there during my fourth year of medical school and really enjoyed it. I felt that the program provides an excellent depth and breadth in terms of cases. I also felt that there was genuine camaraderie between residents and also between the residents and attendings. I am excited to be part of this excellent training program.
About Me/Hobbies: In my free time, I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, running, working out, swimming, paddle boarding, reading, and shopping.
Future Plans: As of right now, I am still deciding whether or not I want to do a fellowship. I am planning to explore all the different subspecialties during residency before I make a decision.

Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM because it feels like home after doing undergraduate and medical school here. Clinically, UNM offers the breadth and acuity I’m looking for, with strong hands-on training at a high-volume level 1 trauma center and a diverse patient population. Every interaction I’ve had with the department has reflected a genuinely supportive, collegial culture, where residents and faculty are both high-achieving and deeply invested in each other’s success. UNM feels like the right combination of strong clinical training, a collaborative environment, and a place I genuinely want to live and grow as a physician.
About Me/Hobbies: Outside of medicine, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors as a way to recharge and maintain balance. I like playing tennis, volleyball, golf, and pickleball, and I try to stay consistent with fitness as well.
Future Plans: Considering doing a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesia and critical care.

Why I Chose UNM: What ultimately solidified my decision was the culture and diverse patient population. During my sub-internship, I experienced collaborative OR teams, supportive faculty and residents, and opportunities to continue growing my medical Spanish. The environment felt authentic and aligned with the physician I hope to become. I am looking forward to everything ahead, including the 300+ days of sunshine each year!
About Me/Hobbies: Lately, I have been spending my time bicycling, trying new restaurants, and leash training my cat!
Future Plans: I’m interested in pursuing fellowship training in regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine.

Why I Chose UNM: I chose UNM for a lot of different reasons. During my away rotation at UNM I noticed how collaborative and supportive the environment was between residents and faculty. I was also impressed by the strength of the training and the variety of cases residents were able to handle early on. Overall, Albuquerque felt like a great city to live. Lastly, being relatively close to home made UNM feel like the perfect fit both personally and professionally.
About Me/Hobbies: In my free time, I enjoy hiking, running, playing video games, and hanging out with my dachshund, Daisy.
Future Plans: Currently I am considering doing a cardiothoracic or pain management fellowship.
