Sarah Almusbahi, MD

 I’m a first generation college graduate of Yemeni descent. I grew up moving around the states - from the midwest to the south, back to the midwest, to the west coast (now in route to the southwest). With a background in International Studies, I worked in education, allied health and nonprofits prior to pursuing medicine at la Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina in Cuba.

I entered medicine with a desire to help mitigate cultural and socioeconomic barriers marginalized communities often encounter in healthcare. I chose family medicine, because it is a corner stone of community wellness. I envision myself following patients of all ages, from all walks of life, helping empower them and forging meaningful, long-lasting relationships through continuity of care.

My interests include social medicine, lifestyle medicine, liberation psychology, border/refugee health, women’s health and global health. I am excited to continue my journey at an exceptional community-engaged, mission-driven, full-spectrum residency program with a diverse patient population. I look forward to learning from devoted faculty and staff in the wide variety of practice environments UNM offers while training “to be the most helpful in the most settings to the most people.”
