Maria Juarez Parra, MD

 I chose Family Medicine because it allows me to build meaningful, long-term relationships with patients while caring for the full spectrum of their health. I value the ability provide compassionate care to patients in a way that recognizes both their medical needs and the broader circumstances that shape their health.

I was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and raised in Española, New Mexico, and my experiences as a Spanish-speaking, first-generation immigrant shaped my understanding of how language, access, and trust heavily impact care. During my training at the UNM School of Medicine, I have been drawn to caring for underserved communities and to understanding each patient beyond their diagnosis. My interests include women’s health, preventive care, and addiction medicine, reflecting the breadth of Family Medicine. I am committed to practicing in New Mexico and serving communities similar to my own.

I chose the UNM Family Medicine Residency because of its outstanding full-spectrum training, deep commitment to underserved populations, and its leadership in community-centered, team-based care that truly makes a lasting impact across this beautiful state.
