Aditya Mamtora, DO

 I chose Family Medicine because I want to be the kind of doctor who stays with patients and families through the ordinary and defining moments of their lives. I am drawn to the trust that grows over time when a physician understands not only a patient’s diagnosis, but also their story, family, work, culture, and community. My path toward this specialty was shaped by caring for diverse populations, especially global rural, refugee, and farmworker communities. In those settings, I saw how language, transportation, cost, housing, and work conditions influence health long before someone enters an exam room.

Those experiences made me want to practice full-spectrum Family Medicine, where clinical care, advocacy, and public health are deeply connected. Within full-spectrum family medicine, I am especially interested in FM/OB and maternal-child health. Caring for someone before pregnancy, supporting them through delivery, and continuing to care for their child and family feels like one of the most meaningful forms of continuity in medicine.

I chose UNM because it offers the kind of community-centered, rigorous, full-spectrum training I am seeking to build a meaningful career.
