Ankita Shah, MD

 My story started in Chicago, Illinois, where I was born and raised for the first nine years of my life. My family relocated to Georgia afterward, so I definitely consider myself a Southern girl at heart. For my undergraduate studies, I attended the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs), where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and a Certificate in General Business. After graduating, I returned to my “home” town of Augusta, Georgia, for medical school.

I chose Family Medicine as my specialty because my strength lies in building close-knit relationships with people. I strive to understand who my patients are at their core. I am passionate about women’s health, obstetrics, and street medicine. My undergraduate education solidified my genuine desire to serve diverse populations and to continue learning the cultural nuances that guide medical decision-making. I had a great interview experience at UNM, which ultimately led me to choose this program. I value its support for reproductive health equity, its initiatives in street medicine, and the opportunity to serve a diverse population.

I have dreamed of living in the Southwestern United States for years, and I am so excited to experience a brand-new part of the country. When I am not at work, you can find me window shopping, scrapbooking, or working on puzzles. I am especially looking forward to exploring the beautiful natural landscapes that New Mexico has to offer!
