Daisy Zhang, MD

 Hello! I’m Daisy, and I’m so excited to join the program at UNM! I was drawn to family medicine because of its position to build trusting long-term relationships with patients across the lifespan and its work to improve all aspects of their health, including beyond the clinic. During medical school, I obtained my MPH to deepen my understanding of how patients are impacted by the communities they live in, and by policy choices. The emphasis that UNM places on health equity, population health, and working with its communities truly resonates with my own values as a physician.

My interest in family medicine has also been influenced by my own personal journey. I discovered my identity as a transgender woman in medical school where I saw firsthand the challenges marginalized communities face in healthcare while also witnessing the profoundly positive impacts of gender affirming care and having inclusive providers. I am particularly excited to be at a program that is strong in gender affirming care, LGBTQ care, and care for marginalized communities in general.

My other interests include addiction medicine, HIV care, and reproductive health.
