Position Description:
The UNM UH QI Chief Resident Position is an exciting opportunity to explore a wide array of interests. From a QI perspective, you will split your time between assisting residents with their own QI projects (both inpatient and outpatient), assisting in the development and implementation of a standardized QI curriculum for the residents, developing your own QI project, and assisting the QI team to evaluate patient safety events and trouble-shoot other providers QI initiatives. Clinically, there is a baseline expectation of attending on inpatient resident teams, but you also may elect to decrease the number on inpatient wards in order to maintain your own continuity clinic. You have the opportunity to precept resident clinic and participate in Direct Care inpatient teams (i.e. non-teaching teams). Other than that, you will have a lot of hands-on experience with the residents and working to improve the residency program. You will be working with 5 other Chief Residents, and together, you will divide up the myriad of chief-related duties amongst yourselves. These duties include, but are not limited to, acting as Chief on Call to address emergencies among the residents, assisting with new intern orientation and education, scheduling speakers for educational conferences, assisting with recruitment (including hosting informational sessions, hosting social events, and interviewing), developing and coordinating retreats for each class once yearly, organizing presenters for monthly Journal Club, organizing cases and speakers for monthly M&M, and scheduling moonlighting shifts. UNM UH chiefs are Internal Medicine faculty with faculty benefits. Salary for 2022-2023 will be $107,000/year plus benefits. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
