As part of our mission to advance physical therapy, the UNM PT Program has two ABPTRFE-accredited residencies for physical therapists who want to take their practice to a higher level. Following completion of a residency, a PT can take the exam to become a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist or Board-Certified (Pelvic and) Women's Health Clinical Specialist.
Women's Health Residency Program
UNM's Women's Health Residency Program was accredited in September 2024. It aims to address the extreme shortage of PT pelvic specialists in the state of New Mexico. Its mission is to provide exceptional evidence-based post-professional training that will advance the resident's knowledge, skills, and critical thinking in gender health physical therapy to that of a clinical expert thereby optimizing the human experience of New Mexico communities.
UNM's Orthopaedic Residency Program has been accredited since 2021. Its mission is to provide exceptional evidence-based post-professional training that will advance the resident's knowledge, skills, and critical thinking in orthopaedic physical therapy to that of a clinical expert thereby optimizing the human experience of New Mexico communities.
