Why UNM is My Choice for Residency: I initially chose UNM for the welcoming nature and genuine kindness I felt from all the faculty and residents during my Sub-I experience. As someone who wants to go into rural medicine or work at a small community hospital, I felt that UNM gave me access to the type of diverse population I hope to serve in the future, as well as the resources of a large academic institution. It's the best of both worlds in a great location! |

Favorite Things About UNM: I really love how approachable the faculty are and how easy it is to ask questions to get the most out of every patient encounter. Being given a fair amount of autonomy from the start was scary, but really helped me build confidence quickly and start feeling like a real doctor! My co-residents are all so supportive, and I love the camaraderie between us: there are always invitations to join in for a dinner, movie, festival, or board game night! |

Favorite Things About NM: I'm a foodie, and I have accumulated a list of great restaurants from Indian to Costa Rican to New Mexican and Thai, but the tacos anywhere are bomb! There are a surprising number of hummingbirds here, and I have fun watching them fly around my yard. I also love exploring the mountains on my bike or on foot and watching the sunsets every night! |
