New Associate CMO for UNMH Transfer Center and Patient Throughput

Welcome, Dr. Rankin!

Please welcome Dr. Alex Rankin as the new Associate Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the UNMH Transfer Center and Patient Throughput.

Alex Rankin, MD, MBA is a hospitalist in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, and has served as Director of their resident inpatient teams and Medical Director of 3 North since joining UNM in 2014. Before joining UNM he worked in rural hospitals in Colorado and Nebraska, where he gained experience with transfer processes for a variety of large healthcare organizations.

At UNM, Dr. Rankin was a founding member of the UNMH patient flow committee, and has worked to improve patient care processes across the institution. Dr. Rankin brings great experience to the role of Associate CMO of UNMH for Transfer Center and Patient Throughput.

Regarding the role, Rankin said, "I believe the Transfer Center is the public face of UNM to our referring colleagues across the state. Combining enhanced Transfer Center processes with improved Patient Throughput at UNMH and SRMC will help us better care for our patients, and serve our mission to deliver a 'high quality of care and service while being accessible to all New Mexicans.'"
