Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Welcomes New Staff

The UNM Health Sciences Center's Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is honored to welcome and introduce these seven inspiring and dedicated staff members to our community.

STACY COLLIER, MA . PROGRAM SPECIALIST
Stacy earned both her Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Arts in Elementary Education degrees here at UNM.

She came to us after working as a sr. student program advisor with UNM's College Enrichment and Outreach Programs. In this role, Stacy served first generation, low income and minority students through college and career readiness programs and summer programming.

Stacy is excited about serving in her new role as our program specialist and providing great experiences and resources to students interested in the health professions.

MEGAN ELCOCK, MFA . ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT III
Megan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from NMSU and Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She brings over 20 years of experience in the administrative field. From the creative to the commercial, Megan has worked in a diverse group of industries from teaching core curriculum and art history courses as a university professor to learning how to climb cell towers at Tower Services, Inc. On the weekends, you will catch Meg riding a horse or in the studio welding and woodworking.

Megan believes the common thread - and most rewarding part - linking her experiences is education and human connection. Her last position at Church of the Good Shepherd introduced her to the LGBTQ+ community on a more personal level and presented her with the opportunity to make a difference by joining our team.

Megan plans to return to school to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in hopes of serving in areas of need across the globe.

SEAN MCDOUGLE, MBA . EXECUTIVE ADMINISTRATOR
Sean comes with over 10 years of UNM experience. Not only has he worked for several core offices for both main and north campus, but he also has worked for numerous research groups. Sean's areas of expertise include accounting and departmental operations as well as human resources.

Sean earned his bachelors degree in economics from UNM and his MBA from UNM's Anderson School of Management. He is currently pursuing a post-masters certificate in Management Information Systems.

Sean believes that accepting and including everyone, is integral to fostering a better future. With his experience working in an academic setting, he understands that a team comprised of people with different backgrounds, experiences and skills means that ideas will be innovative and creative. Sean is looking forward to cultivating an environment of diversity and providing support to all students, faculty and staff in their pursuits at the UNM HSC.

LUIS CARLOS MUÑOZ . PROGRAM SPECIALIST
Luis Carlos was born and raised in Albuquerque and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Planning from UNM.

Coming from an immigrant background, Luis Carlos's personal experience in attaining a college education drives his passion in assisting students in their pursuit of a college education.

Luis Carlos has served students from underrepresented communities for 9 years through his work with college readiness programs providing insight and resources to students.

As a program specialist for our office, Luis Carlos will assist in the implementation of new and expanding programs, and recruitment and outreach strategies to increase retention in those programs.

NATHAN ORTIZ . PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Nathan Ortiz, was born and raised in Albuquerque NM. He has worked in customer service for most of his life and has coached high school football for a few years. He is now one of the program coordinators for the B.O.S.S. Program (Building Outstanding STEAM-H Students).

Nathan handles logistics for purchasing supplies, reserving space and communicating with students and local partners. He has helped develop a curriculum that is designed to inspire kids to pursue STEAM-H career fields. What motivates Nathan the most is the ability to inspire kids to pursue career fields that they might feel is unattainable for them.

Nathan enjoys watching sports, cooking, going to the movies and hanging out with friends and family.

STEVEN ROMERO . DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Steven Romero, a native New Mexican, earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from NMSU. As our director of operations, his primary focus is on managing the business aspects of this complex fast-paced office.

Steven is honored to work for an office whose mission it is to advance inclusiveness, diversity & equity at the UNM HSC. Being a first-generation college student, he knows how difficult it can be to navigate a higher education institution.

In his free time, Steven enjoys the outdoors, traveling, and trying new places to eat.

ROBERTA ZAYAS . PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Roberta Zayas is a tribal member of the Diné (Navajo) Nation. She hails from Deer Springs AZ. Roberta was born for (maternal clan) the Tsenabahiłnii (Sleep Rock People) and born into (Paternal clan) the Táchii'nii (Red Running into the Water People).

Roberta holds an Associate degree in Sociology, Criminology and Social Work from CNM and a Bachelor degree in Sociology from UNM, where she is currently enrolled in a dual Master degree program in Community Regional Planning and Public Administration.

Roberta's passion for community advocacy and overall community health drives her interest in community capacity building and community engagement. She coordinates and helps facilitate Diné language revitalization sessions with the Albuquerque community to teach, learn and re-learn the Navajo language and sits on the planning committee for the La Cosecha Dual Language Conference, advocating for the indigenous population.

Roberta loves spending time with her family cooking, going to the movies and zoo and having outdoor adventures.
