Additional Resources

Resource Rooms

There are two resource rooms available for student use. The study/meeting room is located in the Basic Medical Sciences Building (BMSB) in Room B-53. This room is accessible 24/7 to students who have access to BMSB. Students must obtain the access code from the Office of Student Services, BMSB Room 107. The student organization room is located in BMSB, Room B-83. This room is available to all medical school students. The room is equipped with computer workstations, printers, microwave oven and telephone.

Peer Tutorial Service

The program is primarily for first-year students wanting help with specific subject areas. Third- and fourth-year medical students with expertise in an academic area typically serve as tutors. Contact the Office for Diversity if you'd like to work with a tutor.

Laptop Computer Loan Service

A limited number of laptop computers are available for student checkout for one week. Students are not allowed to load programs onto the laptops, and work should be saved to a flash drive or onto web-based storage, rather than onto the hard drive. Contact the Office for Diversity to check out a computer.

Resource Library

The resource library, located in Room B-80 of the Basic Medical Sciences Building, carries a variety of resources, including basic science pre-test books, USMLE and MCAT study books, medical Spanish dictionaries, and pre-medical planning guides. Students can borrow materials for two weeks.

Travel Assistance

The Office for Diversity handles reimbursements according to university business and accounting procedures. Reimbursable expenses generally include airline tickets, ground travel expenses, hotel and conference registration fees. The Office for Diversity is required to report travel reimbursements to the Student Financial Aid Office. Unfortunately, these monies are currently considered income and might affect a student's eligibility for other financial aid.  Make your requests for funds in writing, and in advance of the event. Some School of Medicine students have been able to serve as officers for national organizations as a result of this financial assistance. Contact the Office for Diversity for more information.
