The HSC Office of Research announces $1.5 million in funds available for renovations of wet labs for FY2023, in the School of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing and College of Population Health. This funding is being obtained through HRSA and a federal community support project. These funds are for renovations of existing wet lab space, and applications will be evaluated on the state of the lab and its need for renovation. Please note the written application will not be the only component to the evaluation process, the review committee will also be walking through and assessing all spaces. Requests must be received no later than close of business on 6 May 2022. As part of our effort to meet the equipment needs of our growing research mission, the HSC Office of Research has successfully navigated our internal approval process and will be putting forth a $2.5M equipment request to the state in 2023. The University of Utah is sponsoring, with NIH National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN), a virtual grant writing and coaching study. This is a great opportunity for faculty trying for R01 funding. In addition to coming away with a successful submission, participants will come away with a wealth of new knowledge and skills in grant writing they will be able to apply to future proposals. The CHRSP at UNM HSC is soliciting applications from all HSC faculty members – senior as well as junior investigators – for collaborative pilot projects on child health. Research may be prospective or retrospective, and clinical/basic science/translational in nature, but projects must involve two or more HSC schools or departments. The CHRSP will grant one or more awards of up to $20,000. Awardees must accept and be able to receive funding by June 30, 2022. NOT-OD-22-057 is available to support scientists with existing grants who offer mentoring and training to expand diversity and inclusion in biomedical sciences. Individual requests for supplemental funds can be no more than $250,000 in direct costs, and cannot exceed the direct costs of the parent grant. Only one request per PD/PI will be considered. Applications are due April 7, 2022.

Announcing the launch of a new Resource-Related Research Projects (R24) grant program: “Modern Equipment for Shared-use Biomedical Research Facilities: Advancing Research-Related Operations” (PAR-21-326) from the NIH Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP). Applications for PAR-21-326 are due on December 01, 2021.
Program officials will hold a webinar for applicants to learn more about the program and obtain answers to questions that applicants may have. The webinar will be held on Friday, October 22, 2 pm-4 pm EDT. You may register here.
The maximum award budget is $400,000 of direct costs. Applications with a request of direct costs less than $25,000 will not be considered.

The NIH and the CDC hereby notify Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) (PD(s)/PI(s)) holding specific types of research grants (see activity codes list here) that funds are available for administrative supplements to enhance the diversity of the research workforce by recruiting and supporting students, post doctorates, and eligible investigators from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in health-related research. This supplement opportunity is also available to PD(s)/PI(s) of research grants who are or become disabled and need additional support to accommodate their disability in order to continue to work on the research project. The NCATS CTSA due date for diversity supplements is Monday, November 1, 2021.

The NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs) are a set of programs established by Congress and designed to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers. The purpose of this program is to increase collaboration between recent university faculty hires and early career Sandia National Laboratories (Sandia) staff in Sandia mission relevant research areas.
