Urology


At UNM Health System our urologists strive to provide the highest standard of medical care to all the people of New Mexico. We train and educate clinical scholars who share an interest in urology and related disciplines, we conduct research to promote greater understanding of our field of medicine, and we promote academic excellence in all endeavors. 

Our department is composed of an experienced group of multi-disciplinary physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, dieticians and a host of specialized support staff that is dedicated to serving our patients.

Conditions Treated

Our physicians specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the kidneys, ureter, adrenal glands, urinary bladder, urethra and the male reproductive organs. Conditions we treat include:

  • Kidney stones
  • Ureteropelvic junction obstruction
  • Urethral strictures
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Elevated prostate-specific antigen
  • Enlarged prostate
  • Cancers of the kidney, bladder, prostate and testes

Our specialists complete a thorough, metabolic evaluation to offer therapy for conditions such as kidney stones. We work in conjunction with our kidney specialists to develop prevention strategies tailored to individual patients. Renal (Kidney) Transplant

UNM Health System has been performing adult and pediatric kidney transplants for nearly 40 years, completing over 1,100 such operations since 1977. Each year our Transplant Center receives approximately 200 pre-transplant referrals, sees over 1,800 patients in the post-transplant clinic, and follows almost 700 individual transplant patients.

The Transplant Center is located on the second floor of UNM Hospital and is staffed by an experienced, multi-disciplinary team.
