Biography

Adcock received a BSc degree in Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research (2014) from Cardiff University, and as MSc in Medical Statistics (2015) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). After 2 years working as a statistician at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) she went on to complete a PhD in Cancer Prevention and biostatistics at QMUL in 2020.

Personal Statement

Statistical evaluations of population-based epidemiological studies supporting elucidation of the viral etiology of disease as well as prevention and diagnosis. My main focus is on the viral infection Human Papillomavirus (HPV). Prior and ongoing work in HPV has focused on triage strategies for HPV positive women, using combinations of cytology, viral genotyping, biomarker evaluation including immunohistochemical and immunocytochemical protein detection and host and viral gene methylation. Population-based cohorts in the United States (U.S.) and randomized trials in a routine screening setting in Italy have provided large databases for these statistical analyses. DNA methylation has been assessed as a predictor of cervical pre-cancer and cancer in self-collected samples in trials based in the United Kingdom (U.K.), and clinician collected samples in the U.S.
Further work has evaluated the uptake and impact of co-testing with HPV and cytology, which is a recommended screening strategy from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), in terms of disease endpoints.
