Biography

Anderson received a B.S. degree in Biology (1988) and a B.S. degree in Pharmacy (1991) from the University of New Mexico. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree (1995) from the University of Texas at Austin. Following his Pharm. D. degree he completed a 2-year pharmacotherapy residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio and the South Texas Veterans Medical Center in San Antonio.

Personal Statement

Anderson’s research interests are in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy, specifically as it relates to heart failure and primary and secondary ASCVD prevention, and health outcomes, particularly as they pertain to advanced pharmacist practice. Additionally, Dr. Anderson has ongoing research projects assessing the utilization of statins for primary prevention of ASCVD in the community pharmacy setting and evaluating the benefit of screening for silent atrial fibrillation in the community pharmacy and other healthcare settings.

Courses Taught

Developed, organized, coordinated, and taught PHRM 750 Physical Assessment and Clinical Skills course since 1999. Successful completion of this course is a requirement for certification as a pharmacist clinician.

Instructor of Record for PHRM 850 Integrated Pharmacotherapy VIII and provide instruction in the topics of therapeutic management of hyperlipidemia in PHRM 820 (Integrated Pharmacotherapy I) and the therapeutic management of heart failure in PHRM 830 (Integrated Pharmacotherapy III).

Developed, organized, and serve as Instructor of Record for PHRM 889 Advanced Pharmacy Practice Seminar. This course involves the provision of multiple professional development seminars provided to P4 students during their APPE year. As well the course involves coordination of NAPLEX preparatory examinations that cover topics that correlate with the P4 students APPE. The students complete 7 of these APPE-specific examinations along with a baseline NAPLEX readiness assessment and a NAPLEX prep examination during graduation week. The course also includes graduation week activities including a live MPJE prep review and prescriptive authority certification day.
