Personal Statement
I have always tried to stand by the Jesuit motto, he who does not live to serve is not fit to live. Early in my career, I recognized the need for clinicians all around the world, and when I decided to pursue psychiatry, I realized that perhaps people needed healers who not only cared about prescribing but about their lives, families, regrets, and sorrows, this is especially true for marginalized populations that usually lack the advocacy power and the alternatives to get medical and behavioral health; this is why I feel committed with the Latino and Native communities in the state of New Mexico.
As part of a family of teachers, I learned to be inquisitive, and that teaching is the best tool for learning. I try to be involved as much as possible in medical student, junior resident, and cross-specialty mentoring, with a focus on improving didactic quality and tailoring education to each individual.
