Biography

Dr. Andrews is a longtime Lobo, having completed his BS in Biology and Spanish, combined MD/PhD, and residency training all here at UNM. He subsequently joined the faculty of the department in 2015 and has focused extensively on education, serving as the Grand Rounds Director for the past seven years, and the Associate Residency Program Director for the past four years, transitioning to program director as of July 2021. In his clinical work, he has developed and continues to maintain the only clinic in the state of New Mexico specifically dedicated to the care of women with chronic pelvic pain.

Personal Statement

I believe that sharing of knowledge through education is fundamental to improving our society. With this high-minded ideal as my foundation, I continuously strive to educate myself and encourage all whom I meet in their efforts to do the same. As a faculty at UNM, I have sought out opportunities to not only directly provide education to multiple levels of learners, but to reshape the format and structure of learning.

Research and Scholarship

Given my extensive research background in the basic sciences, I have been pleased to continue to apply those skills as a clinician educator. I have served as a research mentor to several residents and medical students on projects as varied as the efficacy of our postpartum hemorrhage protocol to the relationship between adverse childhood events and chronic pelvic pain, to the role of video-feedback in surgical education. I hope to continue to develop and utilize my existing research skills to further improve the educational and service missions of the institution.
