Personal Statement
Dr. Andritsos is a board certified practicing Hematologist at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology. Her interest lies in the treatment of hematological malignancies with a focus on blood and marrow transplantation and cellular therapies. In this role, her work has focused on developing improvements in the care of patients undergoing blood and marrow transplantation, post-transplant modifications, and improvements in quality of care and outcomes of patients with chronic lymphomas and leukemias. As a clinical investigator, her clinical and translational research efforts have focused largely on the study and treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and rare disease research in Hairy Cell Leukemia. Under her direction, and along with her team of hematopathologists, UNMCCC was recently selected to be a Center of Excellence for the management of Hairy Cell Leukemia by the Hairy Cell Leukemia Foundation. Within this role Dr. Andritsos collaborates with a multicenter, multidisciplinary research team which consists of scientists, clinicians, pathologists, and biomedical informatics specialists who have developed an international patient data registry which is currently enrolling patients. In addition, Dr. Andritsos serves as the Chair of the Scientific Review Committee for this project. Her own research in hairy cell leukemia focuses on refining diagnostic criteria for HCL, updating risk stratification profiling, and quality of life assessments.
