Personal Statement
I joined CHEK-D in April 2024. I received a BA in Latin American and Latino Studies from UC Santa Cruz, and an MA in Sociology in 2018, with an emphasis on race, ethnicity and immigration from UC Santa Barbara. I am passionate about serving my community in ways that address social inequalities. My previous work at a labor center in Los Angeles centered on racial discrimination in the workplace and how Latino undocumented immigrants were especially affected due to their legal status. I am excited to engage in meaningful research with my colleagues at CHEK-D toward eliminating health disparities in kidney disease and to improve the care of patients in New Mexico.
