Biography

Dr. Christopher Arndt is the Chair of The Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine. He has served as regular Chair since June 2021 and Interim Chair September 2020 to May 2021. He serves on the Board of Directors and Finance Board of the UNM Medical Group, the School of Medicines faculty practice corporation. Previously, Chris served as the department’s Associate Chair. Dr. Arndt was the founding director of UNM’s Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia fellowship. His clinical and scholarly interests include regional and acute pain and ambulatory anesthesia. He has served in many leadership roles in the School of Medicine and UNM Health Sciences, including Vice Chair for Quality and Compliance, Medical Director of the UNM Outpatient Surgery Center, co-chair LoboWings Surgical Services Safety Committee, and Inpatient Acute Pain Service Director. Chris completed the School of Medicine Medical Leadership Academy in 2014 and is completing a health care MBA at Brandeis University.

Chris is a double alumnus of UNM. He completed both his MD (’02) and residency (’06) at the UNM School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, he served as a U.S. Navy officer aboard the USS Berkeley and USS Callaghan. Chris and his wife Natalie have proudly resided in New Mexico since 1995 and have raised three, now adult, children: Ben, Bela, and Eddie.
