Personal Statement

I have the expertise, leadership, training, expertise and motivation necessary to participate as a Full Member of the University of New Mexico Cancer Center (UNMCC), Cancer Therapeutics: Technology, Discovery & Targeted Delivery program. My research expertise involves synthetic medicinal, and chemical biology, with focus on drug discovery of anticancer drugs, and the development of small molecule based probes, and imaging agents.

I have demonstrated a strong record of successful contributions within multi-disciplinary drug discovery research teams with 26 years experience leading a synthetic medicinal chemistry research group. I have also served continuously as the PD/PI of the New Mexico IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (NIH NIGMS 2P20GM103451-15) since initiation of the program in New Mexico as the NM-BRIN in 2001 to 10/26/2016.

I am strongly committed to the mentoring and professional development of early career faculty whose research programs are focused on the biomedical sciences. I also advocate for beneficial interactions and partnerships across the IDeA program. My combined education and experience, scientific expertise, and administrative experience are well suited for my role in the UNMCC.
