Biography
Dr. Baker received her B.S. in Biology from the University of New Mexico in 2004, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She then took a break from school before deciding she wanted to pursue a career in medicine. She received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2010 from Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California. Dr. Baker then moved to the Washington, DC area to start her OBGYN residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center while active duty in the U.S. Army. After completion of her residency in 2014 she decided to complete a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS). She finished fellowship in 2016 and moved to San Antonio, Texas to work as faculty at Brooke Army Medical Center. While there she developed a MIGS division which included a MIGS rotation and surgery-specific training for the residents. She separated from the military in summer of 2020 when she moved back to New Mexico and currently works in a dual position with UNM and New Mexico VA Health Care System.
Personal Statement
Dr. Baker has always been drawn to the surgical side of OBGYN which prompted her to obtain a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic surgery. She enjoys complex, challenging surgical cases as well as working with the residents to hone their surgical skills. One of the most rewarding aspects of her job is to see residents learn new surgical techniques and progress in their training. She is an active member of AAGL and SGS (Society of Gynecologic Surgeons) which concentrate on the field of Gynecologic surgery, as well as ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists).
