Personal Statement

My journey into midwifery began with deep desire to be present with wmoen during some of the most transfomative moments of their lives. Over the past 25 years, I have had the privilege of walking alongside patients through birth, healing, and the challenges of reproductive health. Currently, I serve as faculty with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine’s OBGYN Department, where I focus on urogynecology and gynecology care, teaching residents and midwifery students while continuing to deliver direct patient care.My fluency in Spanish and international work have allowed me to connect with patients from many backgrounds, which has deepened my commitment to equity and access in health care.
For me, midwifery is more than a profession—it is a calling. I am passionate about empowering women, advocating for their health, and making a difference in their lives at every stage.
