Personal Statement
During my undergraduate education, I was deeply drawn to the study of chemical processes within and relating to living organisms. Specifically, the complex pathways of life captivated and inspired me to broaden my knowledge as it pertains to microorganisms. I have realized the array of infectious diseases that threaten our population are vast and the best treatment recommendations continue to be elucidated. The ever-changing hemodynamics in critical ill patients, which affect pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of drugs. In addition to external factors such as ECMO or renal replacement therapies. Not to mention the role that extremes of body weight can have in influencing these parameters. Standard antimicrobial dosing seems difficult to apply and generalize in these populations. It is for these reasons that I am drawn to continue to understand and clarify these challenges seen in my daily practice.
