Biography
Dr. Jeremy Chastain moved to Albuquerque from Tucson, AZ, after almost 6 years at the University of Arizona. He has lived in many states, starting with his birth in Springfield, MO, and then moving to Kansas City, KS, for first grade. He then completed his preparatory education in Broken Arrow, OK, a suburb of Tulsa. He attended the University of Oklahoma for his undergraduate education in chemistry. He then worked in research for several years, first moving to Lincoln, NE, to work on electrochemical research at the University of Nebraska, and then on to Oklahoma State University to begin work on virology and avian influenza and then finally to Dallas, TX, to perform research on HIV at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. In 2003, Dr. Chastain moved back to Oklahoma City and worked in the medical world as a training supervisor at Talecris Plasma Center and then with LabCorp as a clinical microbiologist. After completing some prerequisite courses, Dr. Chastain applied to medical school and was accepted to the University of Oklahoma. He matriculated in 2008 and completed his medical degree in 2012. Dr. Chastain then moved to St. Louis, MO, to complete his categorical anesthesiology residency at St. Louis University. After graduating in 2016, Dr. Chastain worked as an adjunct instructor before he was selected as the inaugural chronic adult and pediatric pain fellow at the University of Colorado-Denver. After completing his pain management fellowship in 2018, Dr. Chastain was hired as the Medical Director of New Health Pain Management and Englewood Ambulatory Surgery Center, in Englewood, CO. Dr. Chastain has always enjoyed the academic setting and was fortunate to join the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at the University of Arizona, Tucson, as a Clinical Assistant Professor in summer of 2019. Dr. Chastain worked in the OR as an anesthesiologist and in clinic as a pain management specialist and during his time in Tucson, he created a new service line for chronic pediatric pain, and he revived the service line for interventional chronic cancer pain. Through his hard work, he earned a promotion to Clinical Associate Professor in 2024, after less than 5 years with the University Hospital. In addition to his work, Dr. Chastain has many other interests. He grew up playing many sports, especially baseball, but at this point in life, he enjoys golf most of all. He moved to Albuquerque with his family and a menagerie of animals, and he is well-known as a huge animal supporter and proponent. In his off time, he tends to be a very laid-back person that tries to spend time with his family and friends and most times he will be found at home, taking it easy.
