Biography
Dr. Christensen received undergraduate degrees in Cellular/Molecular Biology and German Language from Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt) in 1999. He earned the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in 2006. He completed a residency in psychiatry at the University of New Mexico in 2010. His past work in psychiatry has included positions with the US Public Health Service (at an IHS service unit), inpatient and PES at a county psychiatric hospital, and integrated psychiatry at a community health center (FQHC). He is board certified in psychiatry (ABPN) and addiction medicine (ABPM).

My teaching, clinical and research interests are in the areas of integrated care, addiction medicine, and telementoring.

Courses Taught
I teach a monthly course to UNM MS3 students on Addiction Medicine.
I teach a yearly course (large group facilitation) to UNM MS2 students part of the Neuroscience Block - the topic is Substance Use Disorders,Psychoactive Drug Intoxication and Withdrawal (2021, 2022).
Research and Scholarship
Co-investigator on the CLARO study, testing effectiveness of Collaborative Care vs Usual care for Co-Occurring disorders (Opioid Use Disorder + Depression and/or PTSD). The CLARO study will remain underway through December 2023. I have led qualitative research on participants of the CLARO study and presented the findings at the American Psychological Society's Clinical Perspectives on Addiction Annual Conference (March 2023).
