Biography
Katherine Grand, MSN-Ed RN, CNEcl a seasoned senior lecturer at The University of New Mexico (UNM) College of Nursing. With an 28-year nursing career under her belt, Katherine's areas of expertise encompass adult medical-surgical nursing, wound care, and she holds the esteemed title of a certified nurse educator clinician. For over 13 years, Kathy has been deeply committed to the field of academia, driven by her unwavering passion for enhancing the quality of educational outcomes.
Throughout her career, Kathy has held diverse roles, including assistant nurse manager, nurse mentor, medical-surgical nurse, and wound care nurse, to name just a few. She places utmost importance on public safety, forging partnerships, fostering collaboration, and upholding the highest standards of nursing practice.
In 2013, she obtained her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Chamberlain College of Nursing, building upon the solid foundation laid during her Bachelor of Science in Nursing studies at UNM College of Nursing in 1995. To highlight her exceptional achievements, Kathy proudly holds memberships in both the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau International honor society and the esteemed National League for Nursing.
Personal Statement
My passion lies in teaching undergraduate nursing students, with a particular focus on adult medical-surgical nursing and wound care. One aspect of my work that brings me immense joy is collaborating with students in Interprofessional Education (IPE) clinics such as the Albuquerque Opportunity Center (AOC), where we serve the community's homeless population and strive to promote health equity.
Through my scholarly endeavors, I find great satisfaction in teaching educators about concept-based curriculum.

- aims to showcase our collaborative efforts in promoting interprofessional education and its impact on serving the homeless community. <br>For the following previous year 2021-2022, my scholarship work with the New Mexico Nursing Education Consortium (NMNEC) will encompass the following key responsibilities:Designing and managing NMNEC's curricular integrity processes.Overseeing NMNEC program evaluation data collection and analysis.Providing valuable assistance and mentorship to New Mexico nursing programs as they implement the NMNEC curriculum.Offering curricular and policy support for NMNEC faculty and program directors.Ensuring that NMNEC curriculum and policy documents are kept up-to-date on the website and in NMNEC archives.Planning and conducting faculty development programs as needed.Active participation in NMNEC Leadership Council, Curriculum Committee, and Diversity Committee.Representing NMNEC in collaborations with state nursing agencies, such as the NM Board of Nursing - Nursing Education Advisory Committee (NEAC) and NM Center for Nursing Excellence.Collaborating with Dr. Liesveld to develop an annual report to be submitted to the Dean of the College of Nursing.Additionally, during the period of 2017-2019, I had the privilege of serving on the UNMH Research Council. This endeavor fostered a fruitful relationship with UNMH research and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) projects. A significant achievement of this initiative was providing honor students with opportunities to actively engage in ongoing research and EBP projects at UNMH, resulting in a highly successful and rewarding experience.
