Biography
Dr. L. Emily Cotter received her B.S. in Psychology (2004) from Tulane University and M.P.H. (2006) from the University of California at Berkeley. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (2012) from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Following her MD degree, she completed a 3-year Family Medicine residency at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, CA. She completed a 1-year Global Health Fellowship through the University of California at San Francisco/Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, working part-time in Neno, Malawi. She completed a 1-year fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (2021) at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.
Personal Statement
Dr. Cotter is currently the Chief of the Division of Palliative Medicine at the University of New Mexico and the Program Director of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship. She is a Cambia Health Foundation Sojourns Scholar, advancing interprofessional education on trauma-informed palliative care.
