Biography
I am a Assistant Professor and Director of the PreLicensure undergraduate BSN program. Prior to joining the College of Nursing in 2020 I worked in the Pediatric Emergency Department at UNM Hospital for over 20 years. During my 30 +yrs. as a nurse I have had many interests and areas of practice include SANE nursing, case management and emergency preparedness. I have presented locally and nationally and internationally on a variety of subjects including emergency preparedness, emergency pediatrics and rural pediatric care. My Doctoral quality improvement project looked at increasing nursing confidence to care for pediatric patients in rural communities with the utilization of telehealth. Aside from teaching my passions include pediatric patient safety and I have been a child passenger safety technician for 10 years. I continue to work with New Mexico EMSC Childready program providing education and support to nurses throughout the state to improve pediatric care.
Personal Statement
I have worked extensively in pediatrics and pediatric injury prevention, I am passionate about injury prevention and have volunteered and maintained my child passenger safety technician for over 10 years. In the Pediatric Emergency department I saw so many preventable injuries and I have made it a personal goal to impact injury prevention in New Mexico
