Personal Statement

I have always loved pediatric medicine from the time I decided to pursue a career in medicine - in the pediatric world we are blessed to be surrounded by like-minded people who are passionate about caring for kids and who are often still kids-at-heart. We have the joy of coming to work and are reminded by our patients to see the world with wonder, laugh, and not always take ourselves so seriously. At the same time, as a parent and caregiver of children, I understand how precious every patient is and I care for them as if they were my own child. I began as a pediatrician, and after spending time with many overworked and "burnt out" colleagues, quickly saw how I could do so many of the things I loved in pediatric anesthesiology, without many of the burdens that came with primary care.

Since switching specialties, I have never regretted it. I love my job and my colleagues. Shortly after finishing fellowship, I became the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship Director. I am passionate about medical education and enjoy being an advocate for fellows and residents. I enjoy travel and have had the amazing opportunity of joining my friends and colleagues on many medical mission trips in South America. I spent a few years in private practice, which solidified my knowledge that I really love academic medicine, which keeps me learning and growing - collaborating with colleagues, learning from our residents and junior faculty, and always improving who I can be personally and professionally.
