Biography

Dr. Edgoose completed her BA from Wellesley College and her MD, MPH from Columbia University. After completing her family medicine residency at the University of Washington, she practiced full spectrum family medicine at a federally qualified health center in Tacoma, WA. In 2010 she joined the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Wisconsin. She helped build the department's Office of Community Health eventually became their inaugural Executive Vice Chair and Vice Chair of Community Health, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Her research, clinical practice, and teaching have focused on patient-clinician relationships, care of historically marginalized populations, and strategies to promote health equity and community engagement. She has also been at the forefront of developing anti-racism curricula nationally, and in 2016, she was selected to serve on the Health Equity Team for Family Medicine for America?s Health. In this role, she became the lead editor of the American Academy of Family Physicians? Health Equity Curricular Toolkit. She is an active Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) member. She has served as the co-chair for the STFM Minority and Multicultural Health Collaborative and Secretary of the STFM Foundation Board.

Personal Statement

I have devoted my career to caring for underserved and historically marginalized populations and devoted much of my work as an academic toward developing tools and resources to promote health equity. As Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, I hope to continue to support and advance our department?s commitment to promoting justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion across all our mission areas of clinical care, education, research, and community engagement to advance the health and health care access for all New Mexicans.

Achievements & Awards

Dr. Edgoose has received teaching, mentoring, and research awards. She received the 2018 University of Wisconsin Outstanding Woman of Color Award, the 2023 Wisconsin Medical Society Presidential Citation, and the 2023 STFM Diversity Award.
