Biography

Dr. Elmaoued completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of New Mexico and earned a Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. She completed her residency training in Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and stayed on to work with the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition before moving on to complete her fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children in Boston, Massachusetts.

Personal Statement

Dr. Elmaoued's interest in gastroenterology began during her undergraduate years and grew during medical school and residency in which she enjoyed the application of basic science teachings to clinical medicine. She spent some time on staff with the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at UNM before embarking on her fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, both of which provided unique opportunities to work with brilliant mentors and care for patients with unique GI and liver conditions. These experiences reinforced her love for the field. Her interests include pediatric obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, but she also has a great interest in various other GI conditions including IBD, celiac disease, gastrointestinal polyposis, and functional abdominal pain. Having grown up in Albuquerque, Dr. Elmaoued is fond of the community and has an ambition to help close the gaps in GI care in the state, while continuing to grow with her community.
