Biography
Dr. Escalona earned his MD with honors (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Chile School of Medicine in 1987. He completed his initial Psychiatry Residency at the University of Chile from 1987 to 1989 before moving to the United States, where he undertook an internship and further residency training at Duke University Medical Center from 1989 to 1993.
Certifications
Dr. Escalona is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, having first achieved certification in Psychiatry in 1994 and successfully recertifying in 2005 and 2015. He also completed the FLEX examination in 1992 and obtained his ECFMG Certificate through the FMGEMS in 1988, demonstrating his commitment to maintaining high standards in his medical practice.

Dr. Escalona has been recognized for his excellence in psychiatry, being named a Top Psychiatrist in 2021 by NM Top Doctors Magazine. He also earned a spot on the Best Doctors in America list from 2003 to 2015, reflecting his outstanding contributions to the field. In addition, he was honored with the Robert Kellner Teaching Award for the 2007-2008 academic year, presented by UNM Psychiatry Residents, highlighting his dedication to education and mentorship.
