Biography
Cassandra Figgs MSN, RN, CEN is an undergraduate Lecturer I with the University of New Mexico's College of Nursing. Figgs has 18 years of nursing experience and has specialized in patient and family education, emergency nursing, gerontology, wound care, maternal child health and neonatal care. Her nursing career began as an LPN at University Terrace Good Samaritan in Las Cruces New Mexico. After obtaining her RN licensure she moved to Albuquerque New Mexico where she continued her career at Lovelace Women's Hospital as a staff nurse. She then moved on to become a staff nurse at the University of New Mexico Hospital where she eventually became a charge nurse. Prior to becoming a lecturer, Cassandra was the Clinical Manager with Corus a local home health agency.
Figgs conducted a study at New Mexico State University in 2004 which highlighted testing the disinfectants used by the two local hospitals against several common nosocomial organisms. During the project it was discovered that one of the hospitals water sources were contaminated with an unknown organism. This study was shared at a local health conference and featured in an article written by Jennifer Kistler in the Research and Resources Journal Edition 2015. Figgs went on to develop a medication administration record for the mother baby department at Lovelace Women's Hospital which helped promote safety and continuity. Figgs was also part of several projects at the University of New Mexico Hospital that helped promote safety and quality in the Emergency Department.
Figgs holds a Master of Science in Nursing degree as well as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Eastern New Mexico University. Prior to this Figgs obtained her Associate Degree in Nursing from New Mexico State University. Figgs is also a nationally certified emergency nurse.
