Biography
Dr. Fossett is a Baltimore native who received his undergraduate degree from Yale University in 1985 and his MD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1989. He completed his neurosurgery residency at George Washington University in1996 and practiced in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for 30 years prior to joining the faculty at the University of New Mexico.
Dr. Fossett is a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. HIs clinical interests include neurotrauma, neuro-oncology, degenerative spine disease, and surgical neuroanatomy. He has published extensively on neuroanatomy and has co-edited a book on operative neurosurgical anatomy. His research interests include disparities in medical education, outcomes disparities, the influence of socioeconomic factors on patient care, and the impact of post-operative disposition on outcomes.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Fossett is committed to teaching and mentoring medical students and residents having received a Golden Apple Teaching Award and being named the 2023 Congress of Neurological Surgeons Educator of the Year. Dr. Fossett continues to advance educational enrichment in neurosurgery and consistently embodies his philosophy: Aspire to Inspire.
