Biography
Burton Greenbaum received a B.S. degree in Biology (2010) from Rhodes College and earned her Doctor of Medicine degree (2014) from the University of Arkansas. She completed a 3 year residency in pediatrics at the University of Utah and went on to complete a 3 year fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at the University of Louisville.
Personal Statement
Taking care of critically ill children and their families is deeply rewarding and humbling. I am grateful for the ability to provide help and comfort during such a vulnerable and difficult experience. Working in an academic setting also provides fulfillment by giving me the opportunity to educate rising medical professionals. My interest in ECMO and anticoagulation stems from the need for ongoing research efforts to improve outcomes with this life-saving modality. Additionally, I am interested in emergency and disaster preparedness and improving our local readiness to care for pediatric patients.

Research
My research has focused on a descriptive analysis of use of viscoelastic tests in pediatric ECMO patients. We specifically evaluated correlations between use of viscoelastic tests and bleeding and thrombotic complications, blood product usage, and heparin dosing. Our goal was to add to the knowledge of the growing literature on anticoagulation trends and practices in pediatric ECMO.
