Biography

Dr. Gurule is an Associate Professor at the University of New Mexico in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. She is board certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Gurule is a native of northern New Mexican. She graduated summa cum laude from UNM with a Bachelors in Signed Language Interpreting and BIology. She graduated from the UNM School of Medicine and completed family medicine training at the Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency in California. Following residency, she completed two additional years of training at the UNM Maternal and Child Health Fellowship, which she now directs.

Personal Statement

Dr. Gurule enjoys providing obstetric care as a family doctor, so that she can care for the mother-newborn dyad, as well as other family members. She loves the breadth of family medicine, where she has the great privilege of caring for people from beginning to end, providing primary care to entire families, and building long lasting relationships. Her expertise is in perinatal substance use and she works with the New Mexico Perinatal Collaborative as the Medical Director and the Improving Perinatal Health and Substance Use in Pregnancy ECHO to improve access and quality of this care around the state. She is passionate about this care and determined to continue to expand, improve and break barriers for all New Mexicans.
