Biography

Dr. Blake Gutierrez, DDS
Residency Program Director, UNM Department of Dental Medicine

With over 12 years in the dental field, I’ve had the opportunity to experience the full spectrum of what this profession has to offer. My journey began at the Mountain Area Health Education Center and has taken me across the country—from growing up in Utah, attending dental school in California, completing my residency in New Mexico, practicing in North Carolina, and ultimately returning to New Mexico to join the University of New Mexico’s Department of Dental Medicine. Currently, I serve as the Residency Program Director and previously held the role of Medical Director for our department. I’m deeply passionate about teaching and mentoring future dentists. Supporting their growth and development is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career, and I consider it a privilege to help shape the future of dental care. Returning to New Mexico was especially meaningful to me. This is where I received my training, and giving back to the community that played such a critical role in my professional journey is a driving force in my work. I remain committed to advancing dental education, serving our community, and promoting compassionate, high-quality care. Outside of my professional life, I love to travel and explore new places. My experiences living throughout the U.S. have shaped both my personal and professional perspective, and I bring that diversity into everything I do.
