Personal Statement

Dr. Neda Hashemi is a board-certified medical oncologist at the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) and an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology. She specializes in genitourinary cancers (prostate, kidney, bladder, testis, and penis) and leads the Genitourinary Working Group at UNMCCC. She also serves as the Medical Director of the New Mexico Cancer Research Alliance (NMCRA).

Dr. Hashemi is committed to expanding access to clinical trials and improving cancer care delivery, particularly for underserved populations. She serves as a principal investigator for multiple genitourinary cancer trials and collaborates with community sites to increase trial enrollment. She was awarded the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Early Career Cancer Clinical Investigator Award (ECIA) in 2024 for her efforts in increasing minority participation in National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) studies. She holds leadership roles on several national and institutional committees, including the NCI Genitourinary Cancers Steering Committee’s Prostate Cancer Task Force, and serves as Chair of the Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee (PRMC) at UNMCCC, overseeing clinical trial scientific review. She works closely with oncology providers across New Mexico to expand clinical trial availability and improve access to innovative treatments.
