Biography
Matthew C. Hernandez, M.D., is a board certified general surgeon with extensive interest and training in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery and diseases.
Dr. Hernandez completed a B.S. degree in Biology and received his medical doctorate at University of Illinois at Chicago. Subsequently, he completed internship and general surgery residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During his time there, he pursued additional clinical and translational research training focusing on preoperative therapies for cancer. He also completed fellowship training in complex general surgical oncology at City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California.
Personal Statement
Dr. Hernandez's clinical interests include the care and management of patients with diseases affecting the liver, bile ducts, and pancreas. I work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment with medical oncologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists and radiation oncologists to approach complex oncologic patient care with compassion. Dr. Hernandez's research focus is in utilization and outcomes of regional therapies to improve outcomes, medical device development, and treatment sequencing for a variety of cancers.
