Biography

Lisa Hofler, MD, MPH, MBA is Clinical Vice Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and chief of the division of Complex Family Planning at the University of New Mexico. She trained as an engineer at Georgia Tech before receiving an MD/MPH with a concentration in Epidemiology from Emory University. Dr Hofler completed her residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and she earned an MBA during her Family Planning Fellowship at Emory. She moved to New Mexico in 2016 for a career at UNM.

At UNM, Dr Hofler first served as medical director of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health; the clinic was named UNMMG Clinic of the Year three times while she was medical director. She worked to bring many process improvements, grants for clinical care, and expanded services to the clinic. She has served on the UNMH Clinical Documentation Improvement team and the ACOG Committee on Health Economics and Coding. Dr Hofler strives to translate her interests in operations, finance, and coding into smoother clinical practice for everyone.

A committed educator, Dr Hofler has received numerous teaching awards and was named UNM Medical Group Provider of the Year 2018. In addition, she has worked with ACOG and the state of New Mexico on a number of family planning initiatives. Dr Hofler’s research on women in leadership, family planning service implementation, and long-acting reversible contraception can be found in several journals including Obstetrics & Gynecology and AJOG. Dr. Hofler is a passionate advocate for reproductive rights and she works to integrate reproductive justice into her clinical, administrative, and advocacy work locally and nationally.
