Biography

Lisa Hofler, MD, MPH, MBA, is Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of New Mexico. A trained engineer and board-certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Complex Family Planning, Dr. Hofler earned her MD and MPH in Epidemiology from Emory University and completed her OB-GYN residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She earned an MBA with a Healthcare concentration during her Family Planning Fellowship at Emory University. Upon joining the UNM faculty in 2016, Dr. Hofler first served as medical director of the UNM Center for Reproductive Health; CRH was named UNMMG Clinic of the Year three times during her tenure and served as a model clinic for COVID-safe care at UNM.

Dr. Hofler subsequently chaired the UNM HSC Physician Advisory Group and served as Executive Medical Director for UNM Hospital Women’s Services and as Clinical Vice Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Hofler leads UNM’s Center of Experience for complex contraceptive implant removals. Dr. Hofler’s passion for education and clinical excellence is evident in her numerous teaching awards and Albuquerque “Top Docs” recognitions.

She is Associate Program Director for UNM’s Complex Family Planning fellowship and was named UNM Medical Group Provider of the Year. Dr. Hofler has collaborated with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the Society of Family Planning, and the state of New Mexico on several family planning initiatives, and her research on women in leadership, medical education, family planning service implementation, and the impacts of national changes to abortion access has been published in JAMA, Obstetrics & Gynecology and AJOG. Dr. Hofler is a passionate advocate for reproductive rights and works to integrate reproductive justice into her educational, clinical, administrative, and advocacy efforts locally and nationally.
