Biography

Dr. Kapsner received a B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1976 from the University of New Mexico. She earned her Doctor Medicine degree in 1980 from the University of New Mexico. Following her MD degree she completed a 3-year residency in Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico followed by a 2-year fellowship in Endocrinology at Stanford University. She returned to the University of New Mexico as a faculty member in the Department of Medicine in 1986. She retired from the Department of Medicine in 2015 however continues to work as a working retiree. In addition to working at the University of New Mexico she also works part time as an endocrinologist for Lovelace Medical Center

Personal Statement

Dr. Kapsner practices general endocrinology however has a specific interest in thyroid disease and metabolic bone disease. She also has a specific interest in providing care to people with gender dysphoria. She has participated as the principle investigator in several clinical trials and continues with this endeavor.

Additionally Dr. Kapsner has taken an active role in the education of medical students, residents and fellows. She has functioned as program director for the Endocrinology fellowship and continues to be active in the education of all learners . She acts as the attending physician in general endocrinology and thyroid nodule clinics mentoring the endocrinology fellows. Dr. Kapsner routinely acts as the attending in the performing of thyroid fine needle aspiration biopsies, teaching fellows the art of this procedure including ultrasound evaluation of thyroid nodules. She participates as a lecturer on a regular basis for Endocrine School where she has taught students, fellows and residents about thyroid disease, metabolic bone disease, gender dysphoria, obesity and endocrine care during pregnancy. She also participates in Doctoring 1 teaching medical students communication and physical exam skills early in their training.
